Japan stocks bolster, with techs surge after U.S. advances


Japanese stocks opened the Wednesday trading action with powerful surges, tech majors lead the charge after their U.S. counterparts did well overnight. The Nikkei Stock Average rallied 0.9% to 14,444.92, with the broader Topix jumping 0.5%, as Sony Corp. recorded a 1.2% gain, Tokyo Electron Ltd. rose 3.5%, and Advantest Corp.  bolstered 2.3%. Shares of Sharp Corp. developed 2.4%, supported by reports that its April-September operating profit will come in well above estimates. And despite retreats for most utilities, Chubu Electric Power Co. traded 2% higher after narrowing its loss forecast for the current fiscal year.
